The Highway Energy Conservation Act that set the speed limit at 55 was projected by the Federal government to reduce gasoline consumption by 2.2% nationwide.  Actual savings were only in the .5% range.  It was however, a major source or revenue for many jurisdictions as the limit was widely disregarded by motorists.  Our family sedan went to a Chevrolet Caprice with a 305 and a Chevrolet Cavalier, which was a real P.O.S. and an embarrassment to a once great American Automobile industry.  I think the Cavalier topped out around 55.

We ran another victory lap and then proceeded to the wood shed on #15 for pull-ups and push-ups.  Prayers for Deuce, hope the ankle is OK brother.

Pleasure to lead, peace out….Tom.

    • In 1974 the federal government passed the HIghway Energy Conservation Act prohibiting speed limits higher than 55 mph.   Our family sedan was a Buick Estate 225 wagon with 400 cubic inches under the hood.  None of this has anything to do with the workout tomorrow which seems to be a trend for pre-blasts.

it was hot, and we ran.  Starting with a victory lap to celebrate the wins on Saturday.  Then some stretching and on to…

Sandbagger laps – 75% down the country club driveway, mosey to and up #17, sprint the hill on #18 x4 and finish with 5 sets of 4 dips.  Did that 5 times.  Covered about 3.7 miles.

Finished with Mary, sort of.

Finished my 54th year leading a group I’m proud to be counted as a member.   Look forward to starting my 55th the same way.

22 Posted for a suprisingly cool mid-July morning.  After a brief warm up we ran the back 9 holes stopping at each tee box to work on our often neglected back, shoulders to glutes.  At #17 we attacked the source of most back problems, the front, with sections of an ab workout borrowed from P90x.  Had to cut it short due to the unexpected bear crawl down #15 but a good time was certainly had by all.

Pleasure to lead.

Search for a 6-pack

The promise of a 6-pack brought out a Pax of 21, and after finding that my Casio is not on ‘apple time’ we quickly started with a mumbled welcome and partial disclaimer and into the usual side-straddle hops and cotton picker warm-up.

The Thang – to the #1 tee-box for merkins then on to #2 for, merkins.  From there we went to #3 where I realized that pull-ups on the 12′ rafters in the shelter could be too tall for some of the pax.  So we did merkins.  Then to #5 for merkins.  Halfway down #5 seemed a likely spot for that 6-pack so we stopped for some ab excercises.  10 excercises, 25 reps each finishing with 40 american hammers.  Overhearing some grumbling amongst the Pax it was time to mosey on to #6 for merkins.  The shelter at #7 presented 10′ rafters so we took a break from merkins for 10 pull-ups OYO.  Moving on to #8 we did merkins before moseying to #9 for merkins.

Back to the club parking lot for a 50 count LBC and prayers.

175 Merkins, 10 pullups and 340 ab excercises.  It’s an honor to lead.

Pax of 12 posted for some presummer tune-up work.  After mumbling through the mission statement and noting no FNGs we moved into SSH and cotton pickers.  An indian run to Meadows Park led the Pax to a P90x Ab workout of more than 300 excercises to burn off some pork bellys.  Sufficiently warm we completed the loop with a mosey back to the club just in time for a hard stop at 6:15.  Appreciate the opportunity to lead.
