Ruck It BackBlast – Sandbag Solo

No music here …. not that kind of a solo.

A super-sized Pax of 8 posted this morning at our standard AO of Union Point Park.  Double Dipper was able to roust his 2.0 Luke from the fartsack and he arrived fully equipped with Ruck and gloves.  Once gathered, all Pax welcomed the FNG.  Mission Statement and Disclaimer was given and the morning’s evolution was explained.

THE THANG

Q had pre-positioned the 40 lb. sandbag along with 2 cones situated approximately 25 yards apart.  Each Pax would have a turn with the SB while the rest of the Pax did laps around the Union Point Park block.  Upon completing a lap, a new Pax would peel off and relieve the Pax on SB duty.  That Pax would then ruck laps with remaining Pax, and so on, and so forth.  Once all Pax had completed the first set, Rinse & Repeat with a second SB focused event.

  • SB Exercise #1 – SB Throws:  Pick up and throw the SB from one cone to the next and back until relieved.  Multiple throwing techniques on display.
  • SB Exercise #2 – Alternating SB Shoulder Drops:  Pick up SB and let it drop over shoulder.  Alternate shoulders on each pick up & drop.  Repeat until relieved.

Each Pax was able to work in 12 laps for a total distance covered of approximately 2.4 miles.  In addition, each Pax did solo SB work as described above.  While Double Dipper got his second piece of SB work done, Little Dipper modified with some highly motivational Merkin work.

COT

Circle Up for Announcements, Count-O-Rama and Name-O-Rama.  Welcome to Luke Wildauer, age 9, now known as Little Dipper.  Good work this morning!

Announcements:  Sasquatch July 27; Schrute on Q for 7/8/19.  Expect him to bring some GoRuck style from his recently completed GoRuck event on 6/29/19.

The entire Pax got the full 45 minute exertion, as there were no breaks.  The SB Pax could go as slow or as fast as they wanted, but nobody seem to be doing anything halfway.  Kudos for embracing the concept that even if no one is watching, you still have the integrity and drive to work hard.  On the flip side, the rucking Pax kept up a brisk lap pace.  The idea being not to let the solo Pax down, thus providing some motivation to keep up the hard work knowing that relief would be forthcoming shortly.

Enjoyed the morning, men.  Excellent work by all.
