Rucking Around the Christmas Tree

3 for this morning’s Ruck It. With the rain from the weekend and overnight, the grassy area was soaked and the park drive that borders the Neuse had standing water, so it turns out it was more like Rucking Adjacent to the Christmas Tree. But no matter, solid effort was made by all Pax despite the adjustment required.

It needs to be said that the Pax may have seen the Q pulling out the presents from his vehicle this morning rather than showing up to see them under the tree. Rest assured that Santa had another early morning engagement and provided the Q with said presents early so there would be no disruption to the workout. Santa is real and is not the same person as the Q; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

The presents were, in order of weight: two light weight kettle bells (yellow), a medium weight kettle bell (red), a heavy weight kettle bell (black), a heavy sandbag, and a heavier sandbag.

To start all 3 pax rucked around the park as a bit of a warmup lap and returned to the gifts whereby one pax would do the following exercises while the other 2 rucked down one side of the park drive and back to swap roles, split 3 ways.

Exercises were:

  • 4x5s with the sandbag: 5 reps each of Deadlifts, Cleans, Squats, Overhead Presses
  • Upright Sandbag Rows
  • Goblet Squats
  • Kettlebell Swings
  • Sandbag Merkins

Occasionally on the rucking portion, pax would carry the sandbag, farmers carry a kettlebell (each took one lap with the red and the black) swapping hands on the way back, or a one hand overhead carry with the yellow kettle bell, also swapping hands on the way back.

That all gave the group enough time for one cool down lap back around the park and back to the start for Count-a-rama, and Name-a-rama.

Thanks for the good time this morning, fellas.
